SIF is Europe's leading manufacturer of the massive steel foundations that anchor offshore wind turbines to the seabed. Their primary product—the monopile—is a giant steel tube (up to 12 meters in diameter and 120 meters long) that is driven into the ocean floor to support wind turbines weighing hundreds of tons. The Roermond site specializes in rolling and welding the steel sections that form monopile components. The Maasvlakte 2 facility in Rotterdam is the world's largest monopile factory, where components are assembled into completed foundations weighing up to 2,500 tons each and transported directly to offshore installation sites. Founded in 1948 in Roermond as a general steel fabricator, SIF evolved over decades to focus on offshore structures, first for oil and gas platforms, then increasingly for offshore wind.
