Aperam is a global producer of stainless, electrical, and specialty steel, with a unique focus on sustainable manufacturing. The steel from Aperam goes into everything from kitchen sinks and car exhaust systems to electrical transformers and medical equipment. The company's Brazilian operations use charcoal from eucalyptus forests it owns and manages (rather than coal) to produce steel, dramatically reducing carbon emissions. Aperam was created in 2011 when ArcelorMittal spun off its stainless steel operations as an independent company. Lakshmi Mittal, founder of ArcelorMittal, serves as Chairman of Aperam's Board, maintaining the family's connection to the business. The company is incorporated in Luxembourg and listed on multiple European exchanges including Amsterdam. Headquartered in Luxembourg City with approximately 9,500 employees and production facilities in Brazil, Belgium, and France, Aperam shipped 2.29 million tonnes of steel in 2024. Under new CEO Sud Sivaji (who took over January 1, 2026), the company is expanding through acquisitions, including the January 2025 purchase of US-based Universal Stainless & Alloy Products for $537 million. Aperam's capacity of 2.5 million tonnes of flat stainless and electrical steel positions it as a leader in European specialty metals.
