Company Description
Air France-KLM is one of the world's largest airline groups, created in 2004 through the merger of France's Air France and the Netherlands' KLM Royal Dutch Airlines—the world's oldest airline still operating under its original name. Together, they transported 98 million passengers in 2024 to 320 destinations in 90 countries. The group operates through three main brands: Air France (France's flag carrier, known for premium service), KLM (the Dutch flag carrier, celebrated for efficiency and punctuality), and Transavia (their low-cost carrier for leisure travelers). The airlines maintain their distinct identities while sharing resources. The group operates from two major hubs—Paris Charles de Gaulle and Amsterdam Schiphol—giving it exceptional connectivity across Europe and to destinations worldwide. Beyond passenger flights, Air France-KLM runs a significant cargo business and one of the world's largest aircraft maintenance operations, which services both its own fleet of 574 aircraft and third-party airlines. The group's Flying Blue loyalty program, ranked the world's best airline rewards program, has over 20 million active members who generated 52% of passenger revenue in 2024. Headquartered in Paris with approximately 76,000 employees, Air France-KLM generated €31.5 billion in revenue in 2024. As a founding member of the SkyTeam alliance, the group is expanding its European footprint—in July 2025, it announced plans to increase its stake in Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) from 19.9% to 60.5%. Under CEO Benjamin Smith's leadership since 2018, the group continues investing in fleet renewal and sustainability initiatives.
