Company Description
Accsys Technologies transforms ordinary wood into high-performance, durable material using a proprietary chemical process called acetylation. Their flagship product, Accoya wood, is ordinary timber that has been modified at the molecular level to resist rot, decay, and dimensional changes—lasting 50+ years outdoors without toxic preservatives. The acetylation process works by replacing water molecules in wood cells with acetyl groups (derived from vinegar), making the wood unrecognizable to decay-causing organisms while remaining completely non-toxic. Accoya wood is used for exterior applications where durability matters: windows, doors, cladding, decking, and structural projects. The company also produces Tricoya, acetylated wood elements for panel products. Major projects using Accoya include bridges, boardwalks, and building facades across Europe and North America. Founded in 2005 and headquartered in London, Accsys operates its main production facility in Arnhem, Netherlands, and recently launched Accoya USA in Kingsport, Tennessee—a joint venture with Eastman Chemical Company that began commercial production in late 2024. The Welsh facility in Barry produces Accoya Color, a factory-coated version of the material. With approximately 250 employees, Accsys is led by CEO Jelena Arsic van Os and CFO Sameet Vohra. The company is listed on both Euronext Amsterdam and the London Stock Exchange, positioning itself as a sustainable alternative to tropical hardwoods, chemically treated timber, and non-renewable materials like plastic and aluminum in construction applications.
